First Place winner at the Canadian Music Competitions at the age of nineteen, Kirk Starkey’s intensely original and expressive cello playing has led to collaborations with many artists in Canada, the US and Europe. Recent projects include work with Lou Rhodes (ex-Lamb), Elsiane (Nettwerk/ Universal) and Emre Ramazanoglu (London UK). Kirk’s work with audio designers Daniel Dettwiler and Ramon Schneider (Switzerland) can be heard in permanent installation at the new BMW Museum in Munich, Germany.

Formal training at the Royal Conservatory of Music (Toronto), The Harid Conservatory (FL) and the Staatliche Hochschule fuer Musik Freiburg. Recipient of CFMX Scholarship, the award for the most outstanding student in the RCM Professional Program, and the Aldo Parisot Cello Prize (Boca Raton FL). Artist in resident at FABRICA (Treviso, Italy). Member of duo wires and pipes with flutist Sara Traficante. Kirk’s experience and love for contemporary music influences his work as an arranger and performer. His first solo album of all cello work is currently in development. Kirk performs on a Masa Inokuchi cello (1999).
